The new funding brings the government’s investment in kick-starting mobile contactless innovation to a total of €10 million.

FRANCE: Grants are available to NFC innovators

A further €3m in funding is being offered by the French government for innovative projects relating to mobile contactless and NFC services. The announcement brings the total investment by the French government in kick-starting NFC and RFID innovations to €10m and follows on from a funding round in September 2009 that saw thirteen projects awarded a total of €5m.

Projects that received funding in the last round included plans to add NFC to Android phones, to develop a universal NFC wallet user interface and to test an NFC-based museum information system at the Pompidou Centre in Paris. The same criteria will be used to evaluate which projects receive the funding in this new round.

Full details on how to apply for funding are available at www.telecom.gouv.fr/rfid-nfc. The closing date is 30 April 2010.
